a-ha ha ha ha ha ha!

At the end of this month, I'll be travelling east to stay with the Bellevillains for the weekend. It's my friend's 40th birthday and he's throwing a huge blowout '80s party', and he has asked his guests to dress appropriately for the occasion.

So this weekend, I'll be travelling back 2 decades to my local thrift store to rustle up something neon or shoulder-padded. I'm quietly praying I'll find something more formal and sequined and feathered (see pic at left) so I can dress up as Alexis Carrington, but that might be aiming too high. Truth be told, I'm really just looking for a valid excuse to bitchslap the other guests and toss them into the pool.

I hope you don't mind indulging my retro mood with this awesome literal video from Dusto McNeato. Please excuse the idiot host at the beginning and end of the clip - but this is the only clip I could find of this hilarious classic.

More awesome 80s literal videos:

Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart

Tears For Fears - Head Over Heels

They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse In Your Soul

Thanks to the Beevers for the links.

Enjoy a pipewrench-free weekend!

That video was sketchy ;)

Do you listen to some of the good remakes of 80's songs? If so, what is your favorite? Mine at the moment is Sixpence's Don't Dream from Crowded House.

Do you get to take a date? Because I WANT TO GO TO THE 80S PARTY!!!!

Eric: My fave 80s remake is probably Straight Outta Compton by Nina Gordon (formerly of Veruca Salt).

Beckeye: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! YES!!You are my 80s Dream Date!!

Please plan on having someone take video of you bitch-slapping and pool-throwing because it's all about us bloggers out here.

wait... was NWA from the 80s or the 90s? Hmm - I'll also mention Gary Jules' version of "Mad World" by Tears for Fears and I absolutely LOVE the Tom Monroe(aka SCTV's Rick Moranis) version of Turning Japanese by the Vapours. If you only watch one video today, make it this one!

I miss that era TMBG. I can do a mean dance to "Don't Let's Start".

Apart from that, screw Alexis Carrington - I think you should dress up like Alexis Arquette. Full on '80s drag. I'm pretty sure pool tossing would be simple dressed like that. You could borrow Patricia Arquette's "Desperately Seeking Susan" outfits.

Have you seen the episode of Family Guy where Chris gets pulled into the a-ha video?

Damn, I still love that song. I think Take on Me was the first real* song I liked.

*i.e. not a nursery rhyme.

You are the second blogger today that paid homage to A-ha! and I see that Cora made it over here too!!

Maybe you should ask John, from my comments page to the party. Remember him?? He is very cute and one heck of a great guy.

I highly recommend him.

And, any invitation where bitch slapping is not only appropriate but encouraged sounds like a great party!!

80's party's are awesome. But really, to make it a proper 80's party, you need to find a onesie. Preferrably in powder blue.

Dr. Zibbs sent me over here to remind you that he loves you and he misses your comments over at his blog.
(He doesn't pay me NEARLY enough for this job...I swear.)
On the bright side of things, I think I've just found another great blog to read!

Ah, the 80s... I love 1980s They Might Be Giants too (before Birdhouse In Your Soul). Ana Ng is a great song.

I saw the entire first series of Dynasty on sale in a local DVD shop a few weeks back and had to be physically restrained from buying it. And yes, that Nina Gordon cover is one of the finest covers ever. My personal favourite is Pastel Vespa's version of "Teenage Dirtbag".

It's so funny that Zibbs sends helpers to check if you're alright. He is an online David Koresh waiting to happen (though Koresh had better jokes).

I love the literals but ah-ha is still the best.

How's the job going?

Hey there - stalking you from Tennyson ee Hemingway's blog :)

I fucking love that song - being a child of the 80s (ie. born in the 80s) I am of the firm opinion that the best shit was created in that decade. Acid wash jeans, anyone?

It also reminds me of an episode of Family Guy that features this song. Can't really go wrong with that!

Looking forward to reading more from you - I'm always into blogs that are not safe to read at work.
